The Nāṭyaśāstra lays the foundation for the grammar and aesthetics of all performing arts of India, the classical theatre in particular. A thorough study of the text can benefit a poet, musician, dancer, sculptor, painter, theatre artist, art critic and an aesthetician. The Rasa theory expounded by Bharata-muni in Nāṭyaśāstra forms the basis on which many artistic disciplines have evolved over the course of Indian history.
The course enables a complete textual reading of the Nāṭyaśāstra in its original, along with the relevant segments of the Abhinava-bhāratī, a commentary on the text by Abhinava-gupta. It provides a thorough understanding of the aesthetics of Indian classical art forms, thereby enabling the performing artists and connoisseurs to dive deeper into their respective forms of art.
